SPORT WEBSITE SHOWCASE
Sport.co.uk has been around for a while as a property of Media Corp until they sold it to Digital Sports Group recently. The site has been transformed from a rather ugly green and grey website into something rather more interesting. Its creators have used two new frameworks to great effect whilst also producing a slick mobile version. The site is a nice mix of PA and AFP wire content, mixed with unique user content and stats across a very broad range of sports such as football, Motorsport, Golf, Tennis, Cricket, Cycling and Rugby as well as US sports with a growing global audience such as NFL and NBA. The site was re-launched in January of 2013 and has been earning much admiration from fans and professionals alike for its clean and fresh looks and high impact imagery and video.
Football.co.uk has become one of the best established football fan sites in the UK and has certainly moved with the times, undergoing regular updates to both its UI and data. Its position within the market was rewarded in 2012 with its new status as official PFA partner. The site provides a very broad and complete range of content from fixtures, results and tables to live match commentary, extremely comprehensive stats and articles across most teams in the UK and Europe. The site has a thriving facebook and twitter following as well as a well established and moderated football forum.
Motorsport.co.uk is one of the 'new breed' of re-launched sports sites built on super-fast frameworks for the back-end and front-end, the net result being pages load in a fraction of the time and are more independent of device. Matt Tait believes the future is one of responsive code, cloud services, and richer experiences. "For those that have been around web design for a while this new era is the result of a lot of work pushing internet technology to solve problems, it hasn't always succeeded but the next iteration has been better than the last. Motorsport follows that path and we are extremely happy with it but also know we are learning all the time and this will inform the next site. "
